Please join us as we Walk the Park, not the Plank to raise money for Candlelighters Family Camp! This year’s theme for family camp is Pirate Adventure. All the funds raised from the Fun Walk will be used to support families at a weekend family camp - "Camp Cliff" (Children Loved in Families Forever) in October at Camp for All in Brenham, Texas. This is a unique camp that includes the entire family, providing a weekend away from cancer. The days are spent celebrating being together and having fun!

The Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance will be holding our annual Fun Walk on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Terry Hershey Park. (15200 Memorial Drive). After the walk we will have a post walk celebration with food, music, face painters and other fun! To begin the walk, we will have a balloon release in honor of a child who has or had childhood cancer and in support of all the families on their cancer journey.

This year’s walk brochures will be mailed to everyone on the Candlelighters Database list. If you would like additional brochures to give out to family and friends to help build your walk team, please e-mail me, and I will be happy to mail some brochures to you. The brochures are a wonderful tool in recruiting walkers for your team!

As many of you might remember, last years walk was a huge success raising nearly $50,000 for Candlelighters! Thank you for helping us with this fun event!

We will also have a tribute in honor of 9-11.

Also, join us as we honor two of our true heroes. This year, we are thrilled to announce that our walk honorees will be:

• Dr. ZoAnn Dreyer – Cancer Center at Texas Children’s Hospital and
• Dr. Eugenie Kleinerman – Children’s Cancer Hospital at MD Anderson

There are several ways for you to be included in the Fun Walk:

• Take a leadership role: Become a Team Captain, set a goal, recruit 10 walkers, who then collect a $100 in donations and join us at the walk on Saturday, September 11, 2010. All walkers who raise $100 or more will get a walk t-shirt.
• Make a donation or have your friends sponsor your team online - Support the Candlelighters team by writing a check payable to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance and mail it to the office. (8323 Southwest Freeway, Ste. 435 Houston, TX 77074) or
  
  
  Go on-line to www.candle.org You can even list what team you are making the donation for – it’s that simple!
• Walk in honor of a child with cancer and in support of all the families on their cancer journey.
• Walk on the Candlelighters Team: Collect donations, share the camaraderie and feel great knowing that you are helping families who are touched by childhood cancer! Remember, you can walk in honor of a child.
• Volunteer to register, set up, assist walkers, clean up, have fun!
